About add a token
Wallets only display tokens they have been told about, so a balance you cannot see is usually just a missing entry rather than a missing balance. This sends the token's details to your wallet in one request. Worth being clear about what it does not do: adding a token grants nothing and proves nothing, and anyone can deploy a contract calling itself USDC. Only the issuer's own published address settles which contract is the real one.

How do I make MetaMask show a token?
Paste the contract address and decimals or symbol if the wallet asks. This issues wallet_watchAsset so the token appears in the asset list — it does not move funds or grant approvals.
Does adding a token mean it is legitimate?
No. Scam tokens love the add-token flow because it makes junk look like a real balance. Verify the contract address from a source you trust before importing, and never approve spenders to unlock a surprise airdrop.
Why is my balance still zero after adding?
Because watchAsset only controls display. If the wallet holds none of that token on that network, the balance stays zero. Wrong network and wrong contract are the usual causes of confusion.
