About mining profit

Mining revenue is your share of the network's hashrate multiplied by what the network pays out per day. The revenue side is straightforward; the profit side is decided almost entirely by electricity. Two miners with identical hardware can sit on opposite sides of break-even purely on their power rate. Worth noting that network hashrate only trends one way, so a result that is marginally profitable today gets worse at the next difficulty adjustment.

Common questions

How do mining profit calculators work?

They compare estimated block or pool revenue at your hashrate against power cost and any pool fee. The result moves with coin price, network difficulty and your electricity rate — all of which you enter rather than receive as a guarantee.

Why did my estimated profit turn negative?

Because power draw times your energy price exceeded the revenue model at the difficulty and coin price you typed. That is a common outcome on older hardware; the calculator is showing the arithmetic, not a failure of the form.

Does this include hardware depreciation?

No. Capex, resale value and downtime are outside the simple revenue-versus-power model. Add them separately if you are deciding whether to buy machines rather than whether today spread covers electricity.
