About limit order
A limit order on CoW is a signature, not a transaction. Placing it costs no gas, cancelling costs no gas, and if it never fills you have spent nothing — the only transaction involved is a one-off approval to CoW's vault relayer. It settles when a solver can meet your price or better, which is also the honest caveat: an order above the market may simply never fill. Orders here are also protected from being sandwiched, because solvers batch and settle them rather than routing them through a public mempool. Our site fee is zero; the network fee on that approval (and on any fill settlement CoW submits) is never free.
Common questions
What is a CoW limit order?
An off-chain signed order on CoW Protocol that only fills at your limit price or better. Placing it is a signature, not a transaction, so it costs no gas to place or cancel — if it never fills you have spent nothing on placement. Site fee is zero either way.
Why do I have to approve CoW's vault relayer?
Because solvers need permission to pull the sell token when your order fills. That approval is a one-off on-chain transaction to CoW's vault relayer — the only gas you pay to place, unless you later revoke it. The order itself stays off-chain until a solver can meet your price.
Will my limit order definitely fill?
No. It fills only when a CoW solver can settle at your price or better; an order above the market may simply sit until it expires. Solvers batch and settle off the public mempool, which also means the fill path is protected from being sandwiched — but that does not make a fill guaranteed.
