Delegation moves your voting weight, never your tokens. The delegate can vote with your balance but can never spend or transfer it, and you can redirect or revoke at any time by delegating somewhere else. Only tokens implementing ERC20Votes work this way — for anything else, this call will simply revert.
About delegation
Governance tokens carry no voting power until they are delegated — including to yourself. Holding a large balance and never delegating is one of the most common reasons people find they cannot vote on something they care about. Delegation moves weight, never tokens: the delegate can vote with your balance but can never spend or transfer it, and you can redirect or revoke whenever you like by delegating somewhere else. This only works for tokens implementing ERC20Votes; anything else will simply revert.
